From the Aegean to Japan: Premium Turkish Organic Olive Oil for the Japanese Market
Japan and Türkiye share something profound: an uncompromising reverence for quality. In Japan, this is expressed through the concept of monozukuri — the art of making things with care, precision, and deep respect for the craft. At Benjamin's Gardens, we recognise this spirit immediately. It is how we have tended our Aegean olive groves for generations.
Japan's olive oil market has grown by over 300% in the past decade. Japanese consumers have embraced olive oil not merely as a cooking ingredient, but as a wellness product, a longevity food, and an expression of refined taste. They demand the highest quality, the most transparent provenance, and the most rigorous certification.
“Our olive trees have been tended with the same care for three centuries. In Japan, we believe you will taste that dedication in every drop.”
— Benjamin's Gardens
The Japanese Olive Oil Market: Why Now?
- 🇯🇵 Japan imports 100% of its olive oil — zero domestic production at commercial scale
- 📈 Japanese olive oil imports have grown 300%+ in 10 years
- 💰 Japanese consumers pay premium prices: average retail price for quality EVOO is ¥3,000–8,000 per 500ml ($20–55)
- 🌿 Organic and traceable products command 40–60% price premiums in Japanese premium retail
- 🇮🇹 Italy dominates but is losing ground — Türkiye is virtually unknown, representing a first-mover opportunity
Why Turkish Olive Oil for Japan?
- 🌿 Ancient terroir: Aegean olive groves with trees hundreds of years old — a provenance story that resonates deeply with Japanese consumers
- 🧪 Exceptional polyphenol content: Among the highest of any producing region
- 🏆 International award recognition: Turkish olive oils medal at NYIOOC and other prestigious competitions
- 💰 Superior value: World-class quality at competitive import prices, enabling strong retail margins in Japan
Our Groves
Our olive groves sit on the ancient limestone hillsides of Türkiye's Karaburun Peninsula, where the Aegean Sea meets the Anatolian plateau. Our oldest trees are over 300 years old. We farm organically, harvest by hand at peak polyphenol content, and press within hours of harvest at below 27°C.
